Get ready for some MAJOR motivation

For anyone who missed it, Kanye West premiered the new music video for his song “Fade https://listen.tidal.com/video/64415005,” starring Teyana Taylor at MTV’s Music Video Awards. The 25-year-old singer, who is signed to West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, stole the show with her workout-inspired dance moves that left many in awe.

Even more impressive is the fact that Taylor had a baby girl only 8 months ago with her fiancé, Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Iman Shumpert. who also made a very risqué appearance in the video. So how did she get that killer bod? Well, here’s what Teyana had to say about it in her interview with Vogue Magazine:

“I think dancing, as far as fitness, is very underrated. Whether that’s Zumba, tap dancing, or ballet, you have to realize that this is an actual workout. Sometime this year, I want to make a DVD. For real. Most people are selfish—they’re trying to keep all their secrets to themselves. But I really want to do it to help out all of the ladies. My diet sucks. I eat pizza, fried chicken, macaroni; I don’t eat vegetables. But I dance!”-Teyana, Vogue.com

What?! Just dancing?! Get outta here!! Teyana loves dancing as her workout but we all know that cardio is not a quick fix for ALL bodies. Studies show that most women need a combination of weight lifting and cardio to efficiently burn fat. *If you hit the gym three times a week, focus on total body strength training for the first two days and metabolic conditioning (cardio) on the third. Another way to achieve the Teyana body is to make traditional strength training your bread and butter and end with cardio. For example, Close out a 40-minute workout session with 5 to 10 minutes of post-workout anaerobic conditioning. For example, consider 30-second sprints on the bike followed by a minute of rest. Repeat three times and you’re done.*

Don’t forget that you still have to be mindful of what you are eating. Just because Teyana can eat sweets and still look phenomenal doesn’t mean you can do the same thing too. So don’t kill yourself trying to get that PERFECT body. Please, hire a trainer before you even step in a gym so you understand how to efficiently workout. Teyana points out in her interview with The Fader Magazine that her performance is really more about inspiring and empowering women to achieve their best version of their body.

“I feel like it would have gotten a different response if I didn’t have a child. That what’s inspiring. It’s like, “Oh my gosh, she pulled this off *and* she has a child.” It made mothers feel like, “Anything is possible.” It’ doesn’t make people feel discouraged. You have women that are like, “I don’t want to have kids because I don’t want to mess up my body.” I’m a living example that your body only does what you allow it to do. Your body can do what you make it do. If you stay on top of what you need to stay on top of and get focused — whether that’s working out or dancing, or whatever way you want to make it work — it can work. I’ve been moving and in action since I was about four months pregnant. I was always moving around, always dancing, and always active. This video was to inspire women and to let them know that we are super women, each and every one of us. We hold these kids for nine months but we still have to work to provide for our families.”- Teyana, TheFader.com

The key words in her answer are “active”, “moving” and we’re going to also add “what you’re eating’. Teyana can eat pretty much anything she wants and still keep it TIGHT! Uhhh…hmmm…BUT not all of us can do that. What we CAN do is limit your sugar intake and increase our intake of lean protein, veggies and omega-3 fatty foods.

Quitting sugar isn’t a bad idea either. No lollies, chocolate biscuits, cup cakes, fizzy drinks, caramel frappucinnos or Magnums means you’re removing “junk food” that is Calorie dense, of poor nutritional value, that comes in huge portions, is highly refined with added colours, flavours and preservatives. What’s more it’s usually low in fibre and has a high GI (not good). You’re better off without them.
